Sam Barker joined Gibson Thornley Architects in 2022, wanting to work at a practice with values that aligned with his own, particularly around sustainability and social impact, and that was realising complex buildings at a range of scales. He has since worked on projects of many differing typologies, including commercial and residential buildings, and at all stages of the design process. Sam is particularly skilled at creating drawings to communicate design intent to project stakeholders. Alongside his architectural duties, he is currently social events coordinator for the studio.
Prior to joining the practice, Sam completed his Part I at the University of Newcastle.
For Sam, good architecture is ordered, methodical and celebrates the materials from which it is made. It creates holistic places and has a simple, considered form.
